Attics, sealed at the right line.

Open or closed cell spray foam for attics across central Indiana, applied where your attic actually needs the seal.

How we do it.

  • If your ductwork is in the attic, we seal the roof deck.Foam goes on the underside of the roof, so the attic and your HVAC lines sit inside the seal.
  • If it isn't, the attic floor can be sealed instead.Foam goes down onto the top of the ceiling below. Special situations get a look in person.
  • Old insulation comes out first.Spray foam can't be installed correctly over it.
  • Exposed foam is fine up there. In an attic, the foam can be left exposed.

How a sealed attic works.

Cross-section of a sealed attic Spray foam on the underside of the roof deck and inside the walls, with the attic ductwork inside the sealed space. ROOF DECK SEALED DUCTWORK INSIDE THE SEAL WALLS SEALED
Foam on the underside of the roof deck and in the walls puts the attic, and its ductwork, inside the seal.

Foam and thickness.

FoamWhere it goesTypical thicknessR-value per inch
Open cellRoof deck or attic floor6 in +R-3.8 to 4.2
Closed cellRoof deck or attic floor3 in +R-7.6 to 8.1

R-value measures how well insulation holds back heat. Higher is better. Closed cell is rigid and also blocks moisture; open cell is softer and dampens sound. Ranges are from Universal Polymers (UPC) data sheets, tested at 1 inch. We choose the foam for each job. See the data sheets

Before we arrive.

  • The space has to be completely empty.Everything comes out before we arrive, unless something truly can't be moved and we've talked it through.
  • Room for our trailer. We need driveway access for a trailer about 10 feet tall.
  • We bring the lifts and scaffolding. You don't need to rent or supply anything to reach high areas.

Questions.

Can I be in the house while you spray?
No. We can insulate a home you live in, but nobody can be inside while we spray.
How long before we can go back inside?
Contractors can go back in after 12 hours. Homeowners after 24 hours.
Is there a smell?
You may notice a smell for about 24 hours, and sometimes 48 to 72 hours on larger projects.
Will there be a mess?
No. We cover everything in plastic, and the area has to be cleared so we can prep it.
Do you spray over old insulation?
No. Old insulation has to be removed first so the foam can be installed correctly.
